It is officially game week for the Ohio State Buckeyes once again. Wednesday will be the biggest game of the season for the Buckeyes so far when they take on No. 1 Oregon in the Rose Bowl.

An earlier season loss is there for the Buckeyes to get revenge on, as well as a spot in the semifinals of the College Football Playoff.

Following an impressive win over Tennessee, the Buckeyes have an even bigger challenge in front of them with Oregon in the Rose Bowl. Ahead of the game, ESPN college football analyst Greg McElroy gave his prediction.

“I’ll take Ohio State. I think this game is going to be high-scoring, a real shootout,” said McElroy. “Both teams are elite. You never want to lose to Michigan, but that loss may have been the best thing for them. I expect it to be a classic in the Rose Bowl, but I will take the Buckeyes to come out on top and advance to the College Football Playoff semifinals.”

The last time the two teams played on Oct. 13, Oregon walked away with the 32-31 win. Ohio State had the ball when the time ran out on the Oregon side of the field. It was there for the Buckeyes to win it, but a lack of timeouts and execution hurt them.

Ohio State did not play well enough on defense against Oregon that game, in fact, it was the unit’s worst game of the season. The Buckeyes allow just 262 yards per game, which is first in the FBS. Against Oregon, Ohio State allowed 496 yards of offense. It may be a shootout once again, but the defense has to get a couple more stops, to say the least.

Ryan Day and his team have an opportunity to build on the positive momentum from beating Tennessee after ending the regular season in disappointing fashion against Michigan.

It is not every year that teams get to face off twice in a season. Oregon’s first season in the Big Ten has brought just that and they’re building a rivalry with the Buckeyes.
