Before it was reported that the Dallas Cowboys were moving on from offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, changes were already underway within The Star.

Many coaches on the staff had expiring contracts and are not being brought back to the Cowboys for another run as Mike McCarthy enters a do-or-die season as (reportedly) the expected play-caller.

The mix of names surrounding the Cowboys' coaching departures includes "Mike McCarthy" guys and "Jerry Jones guys," which has made it harder to figure out who's calling the shots as the team prepares itself for a significant change.

But Cowboys insider Todd Archer provided some clarity in a recent radio interview.

"A lot of is honestly, and Mike (McCarthy mentioned it), he used the term 'economical," ESPN's Todd Archer told 105.3 The Fan on Monday. "There's the economics behind this, too."

The comment shouldn't be a surprise to those who follow the Cowboys closely. For better or worse, money plays a big part in what happens in Dallas. After all, this is the same team who moved on from Amari Cooper last year.

"Joe Philbin was among the highest-paid offensive line coaches in the NFL," elaborated Archer. "More than two million dollars a year. Skip Peete was among the highest-paid running back coaches in the NFL as well."

Archer added the fact that the Cowboys had 29 coaches on the staff last season, too.

Now that Kellen Moore is headed to the Los Angeles Chargers, the Jones family will have to pay the offensive coordinator less than originally planned.

"Kellen was making $2.1 million as the offensive coordinator," said Archer. "I don't know what he's making from the Chargers but there's an offset there that will save (Jerry Jones) some coin."
