Just minutes after the news broke about Taylor Lewan's release, another domino has fallen in the Tennessee Titans' offseason plan. This time, it is veteran wide receiver Robert Woods who is being released.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz first broke the news late Wednesday morning.

Woods made 53 catches for 527 receiving yards and two touchdowns in his first year with the Titans. He was also the team leader in catches, yards, and targets and a tremendous leader in the Titans' locker room.

That being said, the Titans were set to pay Woods $13.75 million in 2023 from the 4-year, $65 million contract he previously signed with the Los Angeles Rams. With his release, all of that money comes off the books for Tennessee, who needs to clear some cap space before free agency.

Woods still has value in the NFL. His numbers would likely be even better had he been playing in an offense with a competent passing game or more weapons surrounding him, but his currently level of production does no warrant the salary that was left on his contract.

The Titans are much better off moving on from Woods at this point, allowing him to sign wherever he wants as a free agent, and using the cleared money to get younger, healthier, and fill roster holes.

GM Ran Carthon is doing what needs to be done in step one of the Titans offseason plan.
