The Baltimore Ravens are “planning” to activate running back Melvin Gordon from their practice squad ahead of their Week 2 road matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals, according to CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson.
Gordon signed a one-year contract deal with the Ravens in late July, which came after he spent time in the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs organizations last season. He said after signing with Baltimore that the team’s “style of offense” played into his call to join the organization ahead of training camp.
Gordon was released by the Ravens in August after he failed to make the team’s initial 53-man roster, but he later agreed to join their practice squad.
This expected move comes on the heels of the torn Achilles injury that J.K. Dobbins suffered in the Ravens’ Week 1 home win against the Houston Texans. Dobbins sustained the injury during the early stages of the third quarter after completing a 5-yard catch. Ravens head coach John Harbaugh confirmed during his post-game press conference that the former Ohio State standout will be sidelined for the remainder of the season due to the ailment.
The Ravens are now slated to have three running backs active for their upcoming AFC North encounter against the Bengals. Justice Hill and Gus Edwards are projected to lead Baltimore’s ground game in the contest. They combined for 54 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns in Week 1.
