The Buffalo Bills didn't get the best of wide receiver Gabe Davis in 2022. The inconsistencies were so notorious that many forgot all about the amazing performance he had against the Kansas City Chiefs in the incredible shootout between Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes.

Right now, partly because of Davis' play, the Bills appear to have a clear need at wide receiver. Adding a No. 2 at wide receiver behind Stefon Diggs is clearly a priority.

But why? What's the reason behind Davis' decline last season? Bills GM Brandon Beane offered an answer on Tuesday when talking to reporters.

He revealed Davis' high-ankle sprain injury in Week 2 was a factor in his performance throughout the year. Beane also suggested the expectations were unrealistic following his four-touchdown playoff game against the Chiefs in January of 2022.

Beane added that he was confident in Davis moving forward.

But despite the public vote of confidence, it's clear the Bills still need to address the wide receiver position. The same goes for the offensive line. The team notoriously relied too heavily on Josh Allen's heroics at quarterback.

While Allen remains one of the best players in the league, the Bills must find a way to alleviate the pressure he deals with every game. The style of offense they played last year is simply unsustainable. And when it goes south, it can look very ugly as it did in the Divisional Round.

The team could turn to free agency to fill the void at WR2 or even the NFL Draft. In a recent press conference call, NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah suggested Zay Flowers and Jaxon Smith-Njigba as potential fits for the team. You can read more about them here.
