Bills plan to tender RFA CB Dane Jackson
Brandon Beane makes yet another important decision.
Another day, another move for Buffalo Bills GM Brandon Beane. Well, sort of.
The Bills plan to place an original-round tender on restricted free-agent cornerback Dane Jackson, per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
What this means is that Dane Jackson will be allowed to talk and negotiate with other teams. However, Buffalo has the right to match any other offer coming in.
If Buffalo chose not to match any offer for Dane Jackson and he walks, Buffalo would receive a seventh-round pick. All in all, this is a way that Buffalo can offer Jackson a one-year contract yet still allow Dane Jackson to talk with other clubs.
The original round tender, as mentioned by Fowler, is likely to come in at around $2.7M.
Bills Mafia had mixed feelings about Dane Jackson throughout the season.
While the Bills dealt with some devastating injuries, Jackson showed up and embraced the next-man-up type mentality. Jackson even came back from his own traumatic injury early in the season.
Jackson saw an increased role and ran away with it. The young cornerback finished the season with 57 tackles, 12 pass deflections, and two interceptions as a starter in 2022.
Bringing back a talented young cornerback who offers competition at one of the most important positions would be a net positive. Jackson has familiarity with this defense and has shown he can step up, despite some bumps in the road.
Jackson is a great depth piece who has a chance to be more. This is a smart move by the organization.
