The Buffalo Bills didn't look like the Super Bowl favorite team we've talked about since early in the offseason on Sunday. Not only did they lose a 20-17 game to the New York Jets, but they were straight up outplayed.

That's the way this league goes sometimes. You know the cliché. It's tough to win in the NFL. Stumbles like this one are not a surprise. Heck, they're expected.

What's truly surprising though, is that Zach Wilson outplayed Josh Allen. At least based on advanced stats like EPA/play and CPOE, the Bills' quarterback had the lesser numbers in Week 9.

It's not even that Wilson had a great game (he didn't). It's simply that Allen didn't look close to his usual self as he threw two ugly interceptions and allowed five sacks.

His performance on Sunday led to Josh Allen taking a little bit of a step back on one of the biggest conversations that has surrounded him all year long.

While this is probably very low on Allen's list of concerns, the rough game made him stumble in the NFL's odds to be declared the MVP. Since the offseason, Allen has been heavily favored to win the illustrious award. For the first time in 2022, that has changed.

According to DraftKings, here are the current odds-on leaders:

  1. Jalen Hurts +250
  2. Patrick Mahomes +275
  3. Josh Allen +300
  4. Lamar Jackson +1200

Just last week, the Bills' QB was above both Hurts and Mahomes.

This is probably not the main concern for Buffalo right now. Likely, not even for the fans. But it does speak volumes as to how the last six quarters of NFL football have gone for Allen.

The guy has proven he's got what it takes to turn it around quickly but there's no denying he was one of the biggest reasons why the Bills lost to the Jets.
