The Buffalo Bills ruled out safety Micah Hyde earlier in the week ahead of Sunday's matchup versus the Miami Dolphins. Although that was already known, things just got worse for the defensive star.
According to Hyde's agent, the Bills have placed the safety on Injured Reserve and will miss the rest of the 2022 season with a neck injury.
For Leslie Frazier's unit, this is one of the worst possible blows. His defense is built around the safety position with a duo that can keep the unit versatile and unpredictable.
Among many factors that have made this defense an immovable object, the Hyde-Poyer duo is one of the biggest ones. Their skill-set allowed the Bills to use them as interchangeable pieces in their aggressive coverage rotation that kept offenses guessing.
The Bills have been able to generate pressure without blitzing thanks to a very talented defensive line, but there's no denying coverage plays a huge role in that as well.
All year long, Buffalo has been regarded as the NFL's deepest roster. Such a claim will be put to the test again versus the Dolphins when Buffalo takes the field without multiple starters. Unfortunately, Hyde won't return for the rest of the season.
