The Buffalo Bills are suddenly dealing with some unnecessary offseason drama

The Buffalo Bills have some offseason drama they're dealing with this week.

And it involves one of their best players.

Unfortunately, it's hard to know if the drama is legitimate or not.

What's happening with the Buffalo Bills?

Superstar wide receiver Stefon Diggs has Buffalo fans freaking out on Monday because of his social media activity.

Diggs apparently unfollowed the Bills on Instagram and there's nothing on his page that shows him in Buffalo gear.

Oddly, though, he's following the Dallas Cowboys.

There was immediate fear from fans that Diggs is angling to be traded.

After all, Diggs did something similar before he was traded by the Minnesota Vikings in 2020.

But here's the thing — the Bills pretty much can't trade Diggs.

Diggs is under contract through 2027 and if he's traded by the Bills before June 1, Buffalo would be faced with a $37 million dead cap hit in 2023, which means they'd lose $17 million in cap space.

Even if Diggs demanded a trade — and there's absolutely no evidence that he is or will — the Bills would be better off doing…nothing. Sure, they'd be without one of their top players, but at least they'd have that $17 million in cap space.

The Bills could always execute a post-6/1 trade to spread the dead cap hit over two years ($11.8 million in 2023 and $25.8 million in 2024). But that wouldn't leave Buffalo in great cap shape, either. And plus, the Bills would prefer to have Diggs on the roster. There's no question about that.

Unless Diggs demands a trade, there's probably nothing to this.

Though I can certainly understand it being a bit concerning with Diggs' history. And as wild as NFL offseasons have been recently, we probably can't completely rule out something going down with Diggs this offseason.
