Bills sign OL Ike Boettger to a new contract
The Bills were quite smart to make this decision ahead of the NFL free agency period.
The Buffalo Bills are re-signing offensive lineman Ike Boettger to a new one-year contract. The move was announced by the team on Friday.
That means Boettger will be playing his sixth season in Buffalo, the only place he's played in during his NFL career. Boettger was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Bills in 2018 and had a very brief adventure with the Kansas City Chiefs before returning to Buffalo days later.
Since then, Boettger has started 17 games for the Bills with a career-high in 2021 when he started ten games at guard. That year, his season ended with a torn Achilles in Week 16.
"I don't think you can find one guy in the world that has a bad thing to say about Ike," said Bills QB Josh Allen last year via the team's official website. "The ultimate, ultimate team guy."
Boettger provides arguably the Bills' weakest unit with depth and starting upside. Although he played six offensive snaps in 2022, expect him to compete for a starting role this offseason.
This was a quiet but savvy move by Brandon Beane and company. A great way for the Bills to end the week.
