The Buffalo Bills were hoping to have a full bill of health leaving the preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The team avoided disaster with their first team offense and defense but early in the second half, Bills OL Tommy Doyle went down with an injury and needed to be carted off the field.
The Bills Mafia held their breath as the cart came out for Doyle and the medical staff immediately put his left leg in an air cast. He was then taken off the field on a cart with Mitch Morse and Spencer Brown running behind him.
Doyle went down in the team's last preseason game after grabbing his knee in pain before being ruled out. Doyle was taken by the Bills in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL draft and has been doing all he can to get more playing time.
Injuries have unfortunately plagued his short career as Doyle has been limited to only 12 games in two seasons and missed almost the entire last season to an ACL injury.
The Bills offensive line is in bad shape, the first team was getting beaten up and down the field and there isn't much depth as it currently sits with the team. After Brandon Shell announced his retirement earlier this week, now Tommy Doyle being carted off the field, there is virtually no depth on this roster.
Doyle was going to be a crucial depth piece for the tackle position. He had been fighting in camp and was hoping to burst onto the scene for the backup tackle position that is much-needed on the Bills' offensive line. Doyle, while limited due to injuries, was battling for substantial playing time on one of the weakest units on the team. With another unfortunate injury, this could derail his entire career.
Our heart breaks for Doyle and we're hoping this isn't as bad as it looked on the field.
