The Buffalo Bills are wasting no time improving their roster. Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane, just days removed from the draft, added a key piece to the team. In a surprising move, Buffalo added coveted free agent Poona Ford on a one-year deal.
Tom Pelissero, an NFL insider, broke the news of the splash signing. Ford, a one-man wrecking crew previously with the Seattle Seahawks, joins an impressive defensive unit in Buffalo. Ford took a pay cut for a chance to win a ring with Buffalo. While Ford had a down year with Seattle last season, McDermott shouldn't anticipate the same downtick in production. That, and Ford's availability is one of his bigger strong suits as it's been three years since he's missed a game.
Brandon Beane and the Bills' front office love to get their big-bodied offensive and defensive linemen to fight in the trenches. Ford will immediately make an impact on the roster.
Last season, Buffalo struggled after Von Miller and DaQuan Jones' injuries. It seemed as though no one on the defensive line could get home. Ford's addition should help disrupt the offensive line nearly every snap he's on the field. The talented nose tackle has enjoyed an impressive career with 76 games played, 181 combined tackles, and 7.5 sacks.
Additionally, this could make Beane's decision to draft Dorian Williams make a little more sense for the Bills Mafia. Williams is undersized but the addition of Ford could further lead to a path to playing time for the former Tulane linebacker.
Brandon Beane called his shot a few days ago after the draft. The Bills' general manager talked about wanting to add more bodies to the defensive line. In just a few days, Beane stayed true to his word and was able to snag one of the more coveted free agents available.
The Buffalo Bills landing top free agents on team-friendly deals with the hopes of winning a Super Bowl is a far cry from previous regimes. This is a huge win for the organization and yet another example of the massive culture shift that's taken place over the past few years.
Trust the process.
