The Buffalo Bills had the Bills Mafia celebrating early and often with a dominant victory over the Washington Commanders. The offense, defense, and special teams were firing on all cylinders.
In the victory, Bills LB Terrel Bernard had inarguably his best game as a professional. The Buffalo Bills took a gamble on Bernard after he had missed the entire preseason with a hamstring injury, announcing him as the starter despite this. Tyrel Dodson had lost the job to Bernard, but Bernard was required to get up to speed quickly so he could make an impact on the defense. Their gamble has been paying dividends.
With two sacks and an interception, along with a forced fumble, Bernard was able to match the former LB Tremaine Edmunds' highest single-season amount of sacks and interceptions. Mind you, it's been 3 games.
It's been a long journey for Bernard and while the fanbase had high hopes, no one could have anticipated him coming in and being this dominant, this early and often throughout the season.
During the offseason, probably the two biggest positions we pointed out as having question marks were that of the middle linebacker and the offensive line. With a premiere LB like Edmunds walking and Josh Allen spending far too much time running for his life, these two areas need to improve for the team to be successful.
It appears, through 3 weeks, that Buffalo has answered those questions in a big way as both Bernard and the offensive line have well-outplayed expectations in just a short amount of time.
While we can't anticipate or expect Bernard to come in with 2 sacks and an interception each game, if he can keep up this high level it'll look like one of the best organizational moves to date.
The team is used to defying the odds, this would just be yet another feather in an already impressive cap for Brandon Beane and the entire front office. Today, much like last week, is a good day to be a member of the Bills Mafia.
