The Buffalo Bills have a star at wide receiver in Stefon Diggs. Even after a frustrating loss to end their season, his talent is undeniable.
That being said, quarterback Josh Allen and the Bills offense needs more from the rest of their wide receiver corps.
Expectations were sky high for Gabriel Davis to start the season. He is an exciting, young option downfield for Allen, but his production came up a bit short.
Accordingly, someone else needs to step up for the Bills. Enter Khalil Shakir.
Shakir had impressive flashes during his rookie year in Buffalo. He didn't get the targets that Davis did this year, but he deserves plenty more in the coming seasons.
Shakir was a day three selection just like Davis. Shakir's fun jump ball catch ability and improved route running can be vital for the Bills.
The former Boise State wideout made a few splash plays throughout the season. His season stat line was pedestrian, but his opportunities were limited.
Shakir had ten catches for 161 yards and one touchdown this season. He will build on that next year without a doubt.
His work in the slot cannot be undervalued. The Bills have often given those reps to Isaiah McKenzie in recent times. McKenzie was banged up and disappointed at times during this past season. He did not quite live up to expectations, either.
At his size, Shakir projects to a slot role in the NFL, and his skillset can be really useful for a QB like Josh Allen.
Pushing the ball downfield is important for the Bills, but manufacturing other touches for a dynamic player like Shakir would be in their best interest moving forward.
He needs a larger role in the offense for the Bills next season.
