Catastrophe struck the Buffalo Bills on Wednesday. Head coach Sean McDermott met with the media, relaying the gut-wrenching news that Von Miller's knee injury was worse than initially expected.

McDermott revealed that Miller underwent an exploratory surgery on his lateral meniscus in which doctors discovered a tear in his ACL. Miller will miss the remainder of the season.

“Von underwent surgery yesterday. It was an exploratory type of surgery and it turned out that he got an ACL repair in there, so he’ll be out for the year,” McDermott stated.

The news is a shock to Bills Mafia, especially considering Miller’s comments he made on his podcast just over one week ago.

“I didn’t tear my ACL, but I do have some lateral meniscus damage and it’s going to have to be addressed,” Miller told fans on The Voncast. “But I do feel like I can play through that, so I’m just going to wait a little and let the swelling go down for about 7-10 days and hopefully, right before the Jets game, I will be back.”

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport confirms that the initial MRI did not show a torn ACL. It was only after doctors went in to operate on his lateral meniscus that they found the tear in his ACL.

Unfortunately for Miller, it's the same knee in which he tore his ACL during the 2013 season.

The Bills will be without its sacks leader for the rest of the way. Miller has accumulated eight sacks on the season, along with 21 total tackles and 10 tackles for loss.

“Very unfortunate situation for Von and our team,” McDermott reiterated. “We care for him like we would any player. We know how much this means to him in terms of playing and being with the team. We look forward to getting him back off the field for the rest of this season and his leadership. We’re certainly thinking about him as he recovers.”
