It has been just six days since Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin suffered one of the most chilling injuries in sports history. It was a moment that brought the sports world together in thought and in prayer for a player who was anything but a household name.
On Friday, Hamlin joined a team meeting via FaceTime to send his teammates a heartfelt message. His condition has been steadily improving throughout the week.
However, Sunday’s regular season finale against the New England Patriots went on as scheduled. After such an emotional week, there was plenty of discussion about how the Buffalo Bills might struggle out of the gates.
Moments before kickoff, Hamlin tweeted a photo of himself from his hospital bed decked out in Bills gear, joining his hands together to form a heart.
What happened next will live on forever in Bills history.
Bills kick returner Nyheim Hines returned the game’s opening kickoff for a 96-yard touchdown, sending Bills Mafia into a frenzy.
Hamlin immediately responded via Twitter with the same reaction everyone else had when they saw the play.
The play was a microcosm of not just Hamlin’s battle, but this Bills team as well. Resilient in the face of adversity, fighting with everything they have. This one was for Damar.
