The Buffalo Bills safety, Damar Hamlin, is continuing his inspiration journey. This time, he is back in Cincinnati for an act much bigger than sports.
Hamlin returned to the Queen City, specifically the University of Cincinnati, as a part of the "Chasing M's" Foundation's CPR tour. Speaking on the tour and what he is hoping to accomplish, Hamlin was direct.
"When we started to plan this CPR tour, we had three cities in mind we wanted to start with,” Hamlin continued. “That's Pittsburgh, my hometown. Buffalo, my second home. And Cincinnati, my third home. "
Continuing his emotional message, Hamlin was honest about his intentions, “I want to pour my heart out to you guys and the community in so many ways.”
The Buffalo Bills safety made the return back to Ohio for the first time since he nearly died on the football field. During a Monday Night Football contest, Hamlin collapsed after trying to make a tackle in which he suffered a reported cardiac arrest. Denny Kellington, an assistant athletic trainer, immediately administered life-saving CPR which was crucial in Hamlin surviving the incident.
Since then, Hamlin has continued to spread his message and attempt to bring change across the country in terms of the availability of AEDs in high schools along with just general knowledge on CPR training.
Hamlin's recent stop and emotional words to the University of Cincinnati are just yet another incredible chapter in his inspiring story. With camp set to resume this week, and Hamlin being cleared for football activities, he's not done yet.
We can't wait to see what else he's able to accomplish, and when he'll be able to be back on the field for gameday once again.
