The Buffalo Bills re-signed safety Jordan Poyer earlier this week.

Poyer, a Pro-Bowler this past season, agreed to a two-year deal to remain in Buffalo.

The former Oregon State standout has played for the Bills since 2017 after spending the first four seasons of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns (Poyer was selected in the seventh round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the Eagles, but he was released during his rookie season and claimed by the Browns).

A lot of fans and analysts expected Poyer to sign with another team this offseason — especially after his comments about state taxes

But after testing the market, Poyer realized that lower taxes are no substitute for being happy.

The veteran safety wanted to be in Buffalo. He wanted to continue playing for the Bills, regardless of his check being a bit lighter due to taxes.

Poyer explained his decision to return to Buffalo during a media session with reporters on Thursday.

And his explanation guarantees that he'll forever be loved by Bills fans.

"I was just testing the market," said Poyer. "I was a free agent, you know. I was seeing just what else is out there like, there wasn't anything out there that I would have been happy about going to do. And at the end of the day, it really came down to what is going to make — this one of the things my wife was telling me, what is going to make Jordan Poyer happy? What is going to make you happy? Because whatever makes you happy, is going to make everybody else around you happier."

"And so, being here was going to make me happy — being here with the guys that I'm here with," added Poyer. "Being in the community with the community that I've grown to love. You know, and just seeing, seeing all the people in here today — I damn near started crying because it's like, you see all the people in here that you've built a relationship over the last six years and just how excited they are to have you back in the building, you know, is pretty special."

Being in Buffalo is clearly more important to Poyer than the number in his bank account. And that's something that every fan can respect about the star safety.
