Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen made a statement this week that fans will absolutely love.
At least they should love it.
Allen, the No. 7 overall pick by Buffalo in the 2018 NFL Draft, is coming off a terrific statistical season. And it was a season in which Allen helped lead the Bills to a 13-3 record.
While the 2022 season was successful for Allen by most standards, it ended in disappointment for the Bills thanks to a loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in the divisional round of the playoffs.
That loss is serving as motivation for Allen moving forward. The former Wyoming standout has just one thing on his mind entering the 2023 season — it's Super Bowl or bust for Allen.
"I so badly want to bring a Super Bowl here to Buffalo," said Allen this week. "And I just don't want anything to get in the way of allowing me to be the best quarterback that I can be for this team."
"I want to give everything that I have for as long as I play," added Allen. "I'm not saying that I haven't done that in the past, but there's always new ways that I can find to get better, and not being complacent with what I'm doing on the field, understanding that there's a lot of plays that we left out there. And you know, statistically, you look at it, we were top three, four [in] offense in the league last year, and it wasn't good enough. So, just losing the playoffs isn't fun, you know?"
One reason why some talented teams never break through and win a championship is because players have individual goals instead of team goals.
But that's clearly not the case with Allen. He's been incredibly successful as a quarterback in the NFL, but all that really matters to Allen is winning a Super Bowl ring.
There's no way to know if Allen will be able to deliver a Lombardi Trophy for the Bills. But fans have to appreciate the sense of urgency that Allen has when it comes to competing for a Super Bowl. He badly wants to win and he has no desire to waste any time.
