Sunday is a big game for the Buffalo Bills (12-3). Taking on the red-hot Cincinnati Bengals (11-4), winners of seven-straight games, featuring two of the games best quarterbacks.

These two teams, along with the Kansas City Chiefs are all still alive for the AFC's number one seed. Which could go a long way on the road to Phoenix, AZ.

But there is more at stake in this game than just the top seed. Bills QB Josh Allen and Bengals QB Joe Burrow are the (current) closest competitors to Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes for the MVP.

With Burrow having jumped Allen. Who is currently third in MVP rankings according to Draft Kings.

  1. Patrick Mahomes: -500
  2. Joe Burrow: +700
  3. Josh Allen: +800

Where Allen can set himself apart is winning this weekend. Having gone 2-0 against the top two, while Burrow would go 1-1 and Mahomes 0-2 in this circle. Setting the Bills up for the top seed.

The MVP winner (in recent history) is a quarterback on the team who occupies the number one seed.

Assuming the Bills are able to beat the Bengals, it would set them up for a number one seed clinching game next week against the New England Patriots in Week 18.

It would also set up an interesting precedent that Josh Allen and the Bills have had the tougher gauntlet to go through than the Chiefs.

Just look at both the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs last four games each.

  • Bills: New England Patriots (W) New York Jets (W) Miami Dolphins (W) Chicago Bears (W)
  • Chiefs: Cincinnati Bengals (L) Denver Broncos (W) Houston Texans (W) Seattle Seahawks (W)

Not to say that team wins or losses should have a deciding factor into individual awards, but shouldn't be excluded if the quarterback with the best record is really who wins the award.
