Buffalo Bills LB Tremaine Edmunds is set to hit free agency this offseason, and his future in Buffalo is uncertain.
While the Bills have made it clear they would love to have their two-time Pro Bowl linebacker back in 2023, GM Brandon Beane has made it clear that this offseason will be a much more frugal this offseason.
With almost $250 million in salaries still on the books for 2023, Edmunds might have to come cheaper than expected for a return.
But will he and should he?
In five seasons with the Bills, Edmunds has become the team's leading tackler and a viable weapon in multiple areas.
565 tackles, 32 tackles for loss, 35 pass breakups, seven forced turnovers (forced fumbles and interceptions) in 74 career regular season games.
Even with the salary cap expected to go up, Edmunds may be too expensive to keep. According to Spotrac's value estimator, Edmunds is set for a hefty payday.
Estimated at four years, $44 million ($11 million per year). What would make him the fourth-highest paid linebacker in the NFL.
The Buffalo Bills will obviously want to retain as many of their better players as possible but may be priced out. If Edmunds does in fact look towards market value, the Bills might be done.
Buffalo is already having to pay almost half the salary cap to only five players on the squad. Whether or not they will retain Edmunds is only the start of questioning how the team will look in 2023.
Assuming Edmunds wants top dollar on his based value, the Bills will need to make moves to their existing deals to get it done. Or say goodbye to one of their better players.
