Will Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow play on Monday night against the Los Angeles Rams?
That's the question that everyone in Ohio seems to be asking this week.
For now, Burrow appears to be a true game time decision (the Bengals' decision to sign quarterback AJ McCarron to the practice squad indicates that the game time decision label for Burrow isn't gamesmanship from Cincy).
Burrow "tweaked" his calf injury (which he suffered early in training camp) during the Bengals' Week Two loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
According to The Athletic's Diana Russini, folks inside of Cincinnati's building are split on how to proceed with Burrow.
Russini reported on Sunday morning that some inside the building want Burrow to be 100 percent healthy before returning, while others are worried about falling to 0-3 if Burrow doesn't play against the Rams.
"He is clearly not 100 percent, and this decision will wait until just a few hours before the game, according to team sources," reported Russini. "There are some in the building who want to see Burrow 100 percent fully recovered from his calf injury before he returns to action, but there are others who fear the team’s playoff hopes are on the line and want Burrow in the game."
There's no doubt it's a tough call to make. And the toughest part is that there's no guarantee that Cincinnati will win if Burrow plays against Los Angeles (the Bengals are 0-2 despite Burrow starting the first two games of the season). But if Burrow sits, it seems highly likely that the Bengals will be facing an 0-3 start to the season. However, if that 0-3 start means that Burrow will be 100 percent for the rest of the season (and that's not certain either, as it's been suggested that the injury might "linger" for Burrow all season), then Cincinnati would at least feel like they're still in a good spot to make a run in the AFC North.
It's a true toss up when it comes to Burrow's status for Monday night. And I'm not sure there's a right answer. It's going to be a gamble either way for the Bengals.
