Cleveland Browns have landed on a new quarterback behind Deshaun Watson and to some surprise his name is not Joe Flacco.

The Browns are bringing in QB Jameis Winston to serve as the backup behind Watson. It is said to be a one-year deal worth up to $8.7 million for Winston with the Browns, according to Jordan Schultz.

Cleveland's spending at the backup position is something they have to do with Watson playing just 12 games over the last two seasons. Between the suspension and the shoulder injury last season, things have not been easy for No. 4 in Cleveland.

Winston comes in after spending the last four seasons with the New Orleans Saints. During that time, the former Heisman winner started 10 of the 21 games he played in and tossed 20 touchdowns to 11 interceptions.

Prior to his time with the Saints, Winston played his rookie contract out with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. Winston’s top season he threw for 5,109 yards in 2019 to lead the NFL, but had 30 interceptions to 33 touchdowns.

Cleveland lands on their new backup with a 30-year-old veteran that can step in and play for extended stints if need be. This marks the second signing for Cleveland from the outside, with LB Jordan Hicks se to head to the Browns as well.
