Denver Broncos re-sign LB Alex Singleton to a three-year deal
Sean Payton and company aren’t wasting any time.
Alex Singleton, the fourth-year linebacker, will be sticking around with the Denver Broncos.
Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, both parties agreed to a new three-year deal that keeps the defensive leader and standout linebacker in Denver. This is an $18M deal which includes $9M in guarantees.
Alex Singleton was one of the most important pieces on a dominant Denver defense. After being picked up by the Broncos, Singelton made his presence known. He was one of the more vocal leaders and showed up in some of the season's most significant moments. So much so, in fact, that GM George Paton discussed early on the importance of keeping him in Denver.
Sean Payton securing a team leader on day one is huge for the future of the franchise.
Singleton led the entire team with 163 total tackles last year. It was hard not to notice #49 on gameday. Alex Singleton undoubtedly would have had a market for his services as some major deals broke across the NFL.
Returning members to their defense is a good thing and should have fans more than excited about what the team can do next season. All eyes may be on Dre'Mont Jones and his upcoming decision. For now, Broncos fans can rest easy knowing one of their pillars is locked up, at least for a few more seasons.
Sean Payton is on a roll, let's see what else he has up his sleeve.
