The Lions are historically dangerous when they've had molded bread, this season isn't over yet

Nobody likes what happened to the Detroit Lions on Sunday. Losses suck anytime they happen and no team wants to feel them. With that said, maybe it's the thing the Lions needed to happen. At least that was Lions head coach Dan Campbell's take on Tuesday. This team just needed some molded bread.

“What happens is you get used to eating filet—and I’m talking all of us—and everything’s good. Life’s good, but you forgot what it’s like when you had nothing and you ate your fucking molded bread, and it was just fine. And it gave you everything you needed. Sometimes you’ve got to get punched in the mouth and remember what it used to be like to really appreciate where you are, and we’ll do that. So we’ve got a bad taste in our mouth, we got kicked around the other day, we lost a few guys, and you know what? It’s exactly what we needed. This is exactly what we needed."

He's right. We took a look back at the Lions in the last few years and every time they get punched in the mouth and eat some molded bread, it;s like they regenerate and energize off it.

You look back to 2022. The Lions were on a run and then the Panthers came out of nowhere and smacked them in the face with a 37-23 loss. The Lions ate some molded bread and then went on to score 41 on the Bears the next week and then beat the Packers in the final game of the year.

In 2023 the Lions were cruising until the Ravens came along and smacked them in the mouth. The Lions won three straight after that. Then later in the year, the Bears smacked them in the mouth, and then they dropped 42 on the Broncos the next week and won the NFC North title the week after that. They also went on to the NFC Championship game.

Speaking of that, the Lions got smacked by the 49ers in the second half of that championship game and then went on to start this season 12-1.

This might have been the best thing that could have happened to this team. I think that their heads have been in the right place all year, but now they're in the spot that they have traditionally loved to be in. They're the underdogs again.

If you're on any social media you saw it Sunday night. A lot of people turned on this team. Some of their own fans have given up hope just like that. Yes, injuries are a problem and they're going to be hard to overcome, but the Lions have been doing that all year. Let's also not forget that this offense is still at the tippy top of the league. They scored 42 points yesterday.

Now top that with the feeling that they need to prove something to the league and you have a dangerous team on your hands. We'll see if the molded bread truly helps. Right now it seems like it will.
