The possibility of the Green Bay Packers trading Aaron Rodgers this off-season got really real on Sunday.

According to a report from ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, trade discussions in Green Bay have started….kinda.

Fowler reported on Sunday that the New York Jets officially reached out to the Packers to ask about Rodgers' availability via trade.

This was expected from the Jets.

Unfortunately for Green Bay, there really isn't an answer for them to give New York at this point.

That's because Rodgers hasn't even decided yet if he's playing next season or if he's retiring. And until that's decided, it would be an exercise in futility to discuss a potential trade with the Jets.

Rodgers is set to embark on a four-day "darkness retreat" this week (he's essentially renting an Airbnb and turning the lights off for four days) before making his final decision.

Because Rodgers still has the threat of retirement at his disposal, he can drive trade talks despite not having a no-trade clause.

We should start to find out what the outcome of this saga will be after Rodgers' retreat.

One thing, however, is already certain — the Jets want Rodgers playing in New York in 2023.
