The Green Bay Packers had one of their missing starters, De'Vondre Campbell, return to practice on Thursday.
It was a pleasant surprise for Packers fans across Twitter/X, who had been waiting for an update on Campbell for a couple of weeks after an ankle injury slowed him down earlier this month.
Campbell entered training camp 100% healthy but the ankle injury kept him out of joint practices with the New England Patriots, as well as the remainder of the preseason.
"Its not a long-term thing," Packers' GM Brian Gutekunst told reporters in mid-August, making it clear that this injury would not be a setback for the Pro Bowl linebacker.
"He's a seasoned pro so I don't think this will hold him back much."
The Packers added Campbell on a one-year prove-it deal back in 2021 and he out-performed that deal with an All-Pro season. He then went on to sign a new five-year $50 million contract with Green Bay the following season.
Campbell's 2022 production wasn't as high as his first year in Green Bay due to other injuries. Despite that, he still managed to play a pivotal role in turning the Packers' defensive unit into the best in the NFC North and finished third on the team in total tackles.
Meanwhile, for starting left tackle David Bakhtiari (knee), the plan will remain "fluid" as LaFleur and co. have stated throughout the summer.
However, he did share optimism over Rashan Gary's (knee) availability for Week 1, according to The Athletic's Matt Schneidman. Gary is expected to be on a pitch count against the Chicago Bears.
With both Campbell and Gary en route to being healthy again, it's easy to see why the Packers' front seven has the potential to be one of the NFL's best.
