The Jordan Love-Christian Watson connection has all the potential in the world when it comes to scoring points on the Green Bay Packers offense, but the Love-Romeo Doubs connection should be just as valuable in 2023.
The duo showed exactly why on Saturday night when they connected for an amazing 42-yard completion on 2nd and 9 from their own 8:
The play was initially ruled incomplete, but Packers head coach Matt LaFleur wisely challenged the ruling and it was reversed soon after. Doubs clearly got both feet in bounds and he ran an excellent route, but it was Love's throw that was the icing on the cake.
It's especially impressive considering how effective the Patriots were at preventing the deep ball last year. Per Sports Info Solutions, the the Patriots allowed the fifth-lowest completion rate to quarterbacks attempting passes of 20+ air yards (27.8%) and QBs averaged the fifth-worst QB rating when attempting said passes (69.2). In all, the Patriots allowed just 5.7 net yards per pass attempt, which was the eighth-lowest average in 2022.
Love also hit Watson for a deep touchdown during Wednesday's joint practice. It's nice to see things carry over, once again, for the Packers' first-year signal-caller.
But, at the same time, Doubs' catch was amazing, as well. We can't discredit that aspect, at all.
Love didn't stop there, though. A few plays later, he hit rookie wide receiver Jayden Reed for an 18-yard touchdown to make it a 7-7 game. It was another great throw from Love. Overall, he finished the night 5-of-8 for 84-yards and a passing touchdown.
Packers don’t need to worry too much about Jordan Love’s accuracy
Especially considering how the offense is set up.
