All eyes are on Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers over the next couple of weeks.
Rodgers is expected to soon make a decision on whether or not he's playing football in 2023. That decision is expected to be followed by a decision from Green Bay/Rodgers on whether or not he'll play for the Packers next season (if he decides against retiring).
If you're waiting on a report from an NFL insider like Ian Rapoport or Adam Schefter on Rodgers' plans, don't hold your breath.
Or at least don't believe any report that you might hear.
Rodgers joined The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday for his regular weekly appearance and he made a strong statement about Schefter and Rapoport that will likely alter how you view future reports about the Green Bay quarterback.
Rodgers made it clear that the folks in his "inner circle" don't talk to Rapoport or Schefter.
"So if you're one of those people who's talking to those people (Rapoport or Schefter), it's a great reminder for you [that] you're not in the inner circle," said Rodgers on Tuesday. "And if anyone else out there is saying stuff, or they're just making it up — which are both likely, just stop with the fake news."
"I speak for myself. And I will continue to do that. I'm not upset about it. It's the classic media, trying to be first, not trying to be right. The problem is there's a slippery slope. So let me just remind everybody out there listening — when somebody says something, whether it's Ian Rapoport, Adam Schefter, Joe Biden, Donald Trump, Anthony Fauci, Joe Rogan, or myself — question it. If it's legitimate, it can stand up to questioning."
"No one in my inner circle talks to those people," added Rodgers. "I don't talk to those people. I don't have their numbers. I've never met them."
Rodgers is essentially suggesting that no one in the media has a clue about his plans.
And I'm sure he's correct. Most of what's out there is speculation. There are some things that have been framed as "reports", but it's still pretty much just speculation.
Now, Rapoport and Schefter can report on what the Packers are planning to do in various scenarios, but until Rodgers makes a decision, we don't know what those scenarios will be.
I'm guessing that Rodgers will jump on McAfee's show at some point in the next few weeks and reveal his decision himself. So until that happens, take any reports you see — even from Rapoport or Schefter — with a grain of salt.
