Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs essentially gave the Vegas front office an ultimatum on Thursday.

Jacobs, who will be a free agent in March when the new league year begins (if he's not extended first), said this week that he's OK with playing on the franchise tag in 2023 under one condition.

He wants the Raiders to spend money to put some more talent around him.

Jacobs told NBC Sports' Chris Simms and Mike Florio that if the Raiders want him to be a hero and carry the team, then they need to pay him like a hero.

The Raiders are in this position this offseason because they declined Jacobs' fifth-year option last spring. The former Alabama standout then went out and rushed for 1,600 yards in 2022.

Jacobs has made it clear he wants to stay in Las Vegas.

"For me, I got the Raiders seal tatted on me," said Jacobs this week (via Will Selva of NFL Network). "It's always something I wanted to be a part of. I just bought a house in Vegas. It's definitely a place that I want to be."

Tony Pauline, an NFL insider for Pro Football Network, expects Jacobs to receive the franchise tag. Pauline noted that the general consensus at the Senior Bowl last week is that Jacobs will be tagged.

From PFN:

It was a consensus in Mobile that Las Vegas RB Josh Jacobs will be franchise tagged by the Raiders. Jacobs is one of the few first-round picks from the Mayock/Gruden regime that panned out. The Raiders selected Jacobs in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Alabama.

If the Raiders are able to bring Aaron Rodgers to Las Vegas, that might be enough to keep Jacobs happy on the franchise tag in 2023.

The franchise tag, by the way, would cost the Raiders around $10 million, which would make Jacobs a bargain compared to other top running backs in the NFL.
