The Las Vegas Raiders went through one of their biggest changes since 2014, when Derek Carr was named the starting quarterback of the team. 2023 will be the first year since then that the team will have a starting quarterback for an entire season, not named Carr.

While, no, Carr wasn't the best quarterback in the league, he is one of the best to ever wear a Raiders uniform, a uniform that is easily recognizable by the No. 4.

However, this year, someone else is wearing a number that had been occupied for the previous nine seasons.

The Raiders moved on from Carr this offseason, by way of cutting him to save a bit of money and then signed Jimmy Garoppolo and Brian Hoyer. Then when the draft rolled around, they grabbed Aidan O'Connell, the former Purdue quarterback.

O'Connell appeared in the No. 4 uniform during media day, and some fans weren't happy. However, to O'Connell, it definitely wasn't on purpose.

"Yeah, it was the number that was given to me. I really don't care what number I play with. I'll play with any number. So, I don't worry too much about that."

O'Connell was then asked if it was because four times four equals 16, the number he wore in college.

"No, nothing like that. I'm not that good at math."

The Raiders have a fanbase that is often split down the middle on a lot of the decisions made in the franchise. Some thought it was time to go on without Carr, and some thought it wasn't time and that he had never really had a fair shot.

Either way, it's safe to say that O'Connell never meant any harm by wearing the number. Hopefully, he can do some similar things to what Carr did during his time here, but with a little more winning.
