Patrick Peterson has been the unquestioned vocal leader for the Minnesota Vikings, who are beginning to feel like the NFL’s team of destiny.
It was Peterson who spoke up in the locker room last week while the Vikings were trailing the Indianapolis Colts by a score of 33-0 at halftime. His speech sparked a comeback that will live on forever in Minnesota.
In Sunday’s nerve-wracking win over the New York Giants, Peterson found himself on the right end of a game-changing play. With just over 11 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Peterson made a play on the football, coming down with a crucial interception thrown by Giants quarterback Daniel Jones.
Don't Poke The Bear
The Vikings’ defense was caught napping on a handful of occasions on Sunday, which led to Giants wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins throwing some verbal barbs in Peterson’s direction. However, it was Peterson who would get the last laugh.
“I just told him to stay patient – it’s a four quarter game,” Peterson told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero following the game. “Trust me, I am going to get a pick today. If the quarterback gives me enough opportunities today, I will get a pick, and I made them pay.”
Peterson has been the most reliable member of a shaky Vikings secondary in 2022. Many felt he was worthy of a Pro Bowl nod, but instead of sulking after being snubbed, the 12-year veteran put on a show.
“I’m a top-5 overall corner. Rated the number two cornerback in the NFC. The most snaps, the least targeted – that’s shutdown to me. But, it’s a younger man’s game. I guess they said, ‘P2 you’ve made enough, let’s share the wealth.’”
With eight Pro Bowls to his name, Peterson doesn’t need any more validation. In fact, the decision to exclude Peterson from the NFL’s inaugural Pro Bowl Games is proving to have only added more fuel to his fire.
