The Minnesota Vikings somehow walked out of the seventh round with one of the most electrifying players in college football.

With the 222nd overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft, the Vikings selected RB DeWayne McBride out of UAB. McBride led the FBS in rushing in the 2022 season en route to being named a Third-team All-American.

The 5’11” 210-pounder accumulated a total of 3,523 rushing yards and 32 touchdowns in his last two seasons with the Blazers. In 2022, McBride averaged an astonishing 7.4 yards per carry. Though UAB rarely dialed up pass plays to their running backs, McBride is said to have a great set of hands and has the ability to make an impact as a receiver out of the backfield.

Even though McBride was a seventh-round pick, this doesn’t bode well for Dalvin cook’s future in Minnesota. After the team resigned Alexander Mattison in the offseason, Minnesota has an opportunity to save $8 million in trading Cook and paving the way for a significant role for McBride in his rookie campaign.
