FOXBOROUGH, Mass – The New England Patriots have a quick turnaround heading into their Thursday Night Football matchup against the Steelers in Pittsburgh.
And it seems they aren't making any major changes.
Speaking with reporters on Tuesday, Bailey Zappe was asked if he's been told he is the starting quarterback for this week's game. And he seems to have let the cat out of the bag despite trying to be discrete.
“Coach made it pretty clear, but I’ll let him announce it to everybody,” Zappe said.
That makes it pretty obvious that it will be Zappe hour once again.
It has been a rollercoaster ride for Zappe this season, having been waived by the Patriots at cutdown day and re-signed to the practice squad. While he reportedly had numerous offers from other teams, Zappe decided to stick around in New England and continue working with Bill Belichick and Bill O'Brien.
And when asked if he felt like he made the right decision to stay, his answer was simple: "Yes."
Following their loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, Belichick finally admitted that he named Zappe the starter because he "thought he deserved it"
"I said that he’s worked hard all year, and I thought he deserved a chance to play," the coach said. "We made that decision last week."
And based on how he did this past week, Belichick is giving him another chance to play. Let's see if the Patriots offense can get something going.
