Following mandatory minicamp, while the New England Patriots were on their summer vacation, Jack Jones made headlines after he was arrested at Boston Logan International Airport for trying to bring two loaded firearms on a plane.
While the Patriots released a statement the night of the arrest, only a few players have been asked about the incident and spoken publicly.
But on Monday, with veterans reporting back to the facility for the start of training camp, head coach Bill Belichick was asked about the situation.
The main question on everybody's mind: will Jones be on the field for training camp?
"Jack will be out there," Belichick said. "Legal situation that I can't comment on that's ongoing."
However, when asked about his plans to stand by the young cornerback or talk about his initial reactions to the news, Belichick declined to comment.
"Can't talk about it, it's a legal process," Belichick said.
Following his arrest on June 16, Jones was arraigned in East Boston Municipal Court, pleading not guilty to the charges. His attorney, Rosemary Scapicchio, spoke to the media following his arraignment claiming that Jones "had no intention of brining any guns into Logan Airport that day."
He is being charged with two counts of possession of a concealed weapon in a secure area of an airport, possession of ammunition without a Firearm Identification Card, unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, and possession of a large-capacity feeding device.
Jones is due back in court on on August 18 which is the day prior to the Patriots second preseason game against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. He is potentially facing more the 30 years in prison if he were convicted and sentenced on each of the charges he faces.
