FOXBOROUGH, Mass – All season, the New England Patriots have continued to give Mac Jones chance after chance.

Well, that was until Week 13.

Head coach Bill Belichick decided to give Bailey Zappe the opportunity to start after he replaced Jones four times during the season. And after Sunday's loss where the offense wasn't able to score a single point, he finally opened up on the decision.

"I thought he deserved it," Belichick said. "I said that he’s worked hard all year, and I thought he deserved a chance to play. We made that decision last week."

Based on the lack of production, there was also a question that arose regarding whether the team ever thought of putting Jones in.

"We did what we thought was best in the game," is all Belichick said and was also asked why he didn't make the move to start Zappe sooner. "Because we gave Mac [Jones] the opportunity to work through his progression with the offense. Obviously we hadn’t had a lot of production. I thought Bailey deserved a chance to play, so he played today."

While Zappe made some solid throws in the loss, his efforts still weren't enough to get the team the win. And despite having elevated Malik Cunningham to the active roster, Zappe was the only quarterback to play on Sunday.

As expected, Belichick would not comment on the starting quarterback for this shorten week. So once again, it's a mystery.
