The New England Patriots acquiring J.C. Jackson was a vital move and it just got so much better.

Jackson signed a massive deal with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2021 for $82.5 million across five years. And the question that arose with this trade was how much of this the Patriots had to take on.

The answer: not much.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports that the Patriots and Chargers reworked Jackson's remaining $9.33 million for the 2023 season. New England will only cover $1.5 million of it, while the Chargers are responsible for the rest.

The rest of the contract will remain how it is.

This is a win-win for the Patriots who add a much-needed player into the folds, while the Chargers are able to get rid of someone who clearly did not fit after he was a healthy scratch and saw limited to no snaps in the games he was active for.

The Athletic's Jeff Howe added that the Patriots have been keeping a close eye on Jackson's situation during the last couple of weeks. They were unsure if he would get released, but saw an opportunity to add him without losing much and took it.

The Patriots traded with the Chargers on Wednesday for Jackson in exchange for some late round picks.

The team was in need of additional depth at cornerback with many players injured including star rookie Christian Gonzalez. Gonzalez is now reportedly out for the season.

Jackson signed with the Patriots in 2018 as an undrafted free agent and truly made a name for himself.

He won a Super Bowl with New England in 2018 and was named to the second-team All-Pro and Pro Bowl in his final year with the Patriots.

Following the 2021 season, Jackson went to Chargers, signing a massive $82.5 million contract for five years.

In his six year in the league, Jackson has 176 tackles, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, and 26 interceptions across 69 games played.

Let's see what he can do back in the place where it all began.
