Well, that didn't last long.
After the New England Patriots waived both Bailey Zappe and undrafted rookie Malik Cunningham, Mac Jones was the only quarterback on the active roster. But that's not the case anymore.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that the Patriots have claimed former Carolina Panthers quarterback Matt Corral.
Corral was drafted by the Panthers in third round of the 2022 NFL draft, but suffered an Lisfranc injury in the preseason in a game against the Patriots and was placed on season-ending injured reserve.
And to top it all off, Corral was selected by the Panthers with a third-round pick that the Patriots traded them in return for a 2022 fourth-round pick and 2023 third-round pick. That fourth-round pick was then used to draft Zappe.
The new Patriots quarterback is now on the active roster alongside Jones, with Zappe and Cunningham remaining on the practice squad.
Patriots re-sign QBs Bailey Zappe and Malik Cunningham
Just one day after cutting both players, they find themselves back in Patriots uniforms.
