Steve Belichick is heading into the next chapter of his career.

According to The Athletic, the University of Washington is expected to hire Steve Belichick as defensive coordinator.

Steve Belichick has been with the New England Patriots since 2012 and most recently served as the outside linebackers coach. While the team didn't name an official defensive coordinator for the past few years, it has been Steve Belichick who has made the calls during games.

Despite the team deciding to mutually part ways with Bill Belichick, new head coach Jerod Mayo offered jobs to both Steve and Brian Belichick. However, the exact titles for the two were unknown.

Steve Belichick worked alongside Mayo as the linebackers coach, basically sharing the duties of defensive coordinator. Mayo was in charge of running the meetings, but it was Steve who called the plays during games. And the two grew very close.

As for Brian Belichick, he started with the team in 2016 as a scouting assistant, but was promoted to coaching assistant from 2017 to 2019. In 2020, Brian Belichick was moved to safeties coach.

But it appears Steve Belichick decided to go in a different route.

As for the new defensive coordinator in New England, DeMarcus Covington was promoted to take over that position.

This will be Steve Belichick's first time coaching without his father leading the way, but it's also an important time in his career. He can show what he can do, without Bill Belichick by his side and create his own identity.

So let's see what happens.
