New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston has had an eventful past week. Last Sunday, Winston entered the Saints game against the Minnesota Vikings for an injured Derek Carr.
This Saturday, he'll get a major honor from his college alma mater.
Florida State will retire QB Jameis Winston’s jersey following the first quarter of Saturday’s home game vs. North Alabama.
Winston won the 2013 Heisman Trophy as a member of the Seminoles. He'll be the 11th player in team history to have his jersey number retired.
He had a special run as their quarterback during his college career, including when Winston led Florida State to a 14-0 record and the 2013 National Championship. He's the youngest player to ever win the Heisman, too.
As an NFL QB, it has been quite the whirlwind for Winston since he was the first overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. So far, Winston has completed 1,748 passes for 21,941 yards and 139 touchdowns in his pro career.
Winston is a candidate to start in Week 12 for New Orleans as Carr continues to recover from a shoulder injury and a concussion.
The Saints are on bye this week.
