The running back market has become a marvel in the NFL. Every year, it proves drama in some shape or form. This season, that's been the case in a couple of scenarios. Early free agency went pretty normally as many veteran running backs signed bridge deals to vye for a starting spot. That being said, two outliers have been at the center of attention around the league: Dalvin Cook and Saquon Barkley.

Now, they are very different situations, but they're interesting, nonetheless. Cook was released by the Minnesota Vikings as the two sides disputed what an extension for the RB should look like. Meanwhile, the New York Giants and Barkley remain in a stand-off for a long-term deal. The Giants want Barkley to play on the franchise tag this season if they don't reach an agreement, but Barkley would prefer a new contract. Makes plenty of sense.

Former New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram thinks that the current NFL RB market is quite unfair to the players.

Ingram has a point. Running backs have little leverage in today's NFL due to concerns about age/wear to their bodies as they get older.

Teams are very apprehensive to give them an extension that reaches past their age 29 season. Not to mention, success from teams in the postseason hasn't consistently linked to having a top-end RB, so teams focus elsewhere with the bulk of their cash.

It is unfortunate, but both sides do have some agreeable narratives. Regardless, the former Saints running back isn't happy about it.
