Welcome back Jets offense of 2023! You were not missed.

After the life the New York Jets showed last week in a 30-6 victory against the Houston Texans last week, the Jets came out and laid a goose egg against their divisional rival, the Miami Dolphins 30-0.

The Jets offense managed just 103 yards of total offense. For the record, this wasn’t some nor’easter like they played in Carolina. This was beautiful Miami weather.

The main culprit for the Jets utter ineptitude was the Jets offensive line. I have seen tackling dummies put up more of a fight than the Jets offensive line put up. I would love to tell you that Zach Wilson was good, or bad, or mediocre but he didn’t have a shot to do anything other than get sacked.

Mekhi Becton, Laken Tomlinson, Joe Tippmann, Jake Hanson and Billy Turner were atrocious in every aspect of football today. Becton, Tomlinson and Turner were especially bad. The Jets averaged just 1.9 yards per play.

Zach Wilson, who left the game just before half time with a concussion was sacked four times but was pressured on 10 of 15 drop backs. After the game, Jets coach Robert Saleh said the Dolphins “won the battle up front.”

Trevor Siemian, who replaced Wilson for the rest of the game didn’t fare much better, throwing two interceptions and getting sacked two times and losing a fumble. Siemian was 14 for 26 for 110 yards.

This was arguably the worst loss in Robert Saleh’s tenure as head coach. It was a systemic failure from top to bottom. The defense, which was also riding high after last week’s victory, looked pedestrian at best.

The Jets were given a gift prior to the game when Tyreek Hill was ruled out of the game with an ankle injury, and still the Jets couldn’t seem to slow down the Miami offense. Jaylen Waddle slipped right in to the number one receiver role and 8 passes for 142 yards including a 60-yard touchdown over D.J. Reed.

Robert Saleh was asked after the game if this loss was embarrassing and he responded, “yeah”. “You put together the best plan possible. Sometimes (it turns out to be) good. Sometimes it’s not,” Saleh said.

After seeing Brandon Staley fired for the Los Angeles Chargers after an embarrassing loss to their divisional rivals this week, Saleh should be at least a little worried. I still don’t believe Saleh should be fired this season, but another performance like this and I would reconsider, despite what Aaron Rodgers says.

To add salt to the wound, the Jets were officially eliminated from playoff contention with the loss (and some other results). The longest streak in professional sports of missing the playoffs reaches 13 years.

When Joe Douglas took over as General Manager of the New York Jets back in 2019, he had a long laundry list of things to fix from the previous regime. But one thing stood out more than all the others: the offensive line. Joe came into a team that had little to no investment along […]
