As March comes to a close, it is about to be officially NFL Draft month around the league, and teams are turning up the pressure. Prospect visits, private workouts, and discussions inside the building will help craft the Philadelphia Eagles’ plan for the first few rounds.

The Eagles could go in a plethora of different directions in the first round. If they’re thinking of life past A.J. Brown, one route may make more sense than others, and Tyler Forness’ latest mock draft pinpointed precisely that.

First round: Omar Cooper Jr., WR, Indiana

“We are operating under the assumption that the Eagles are going to trade A.J. Brown at some point. By doing so, they will open up a big hole on the outside. Cooper played in an RPO-heavy offense at Indiana, which is something that Jalen Hurts has thrived with. Since Sean Mannion is coming in, Cooper also fits the wide zone, West Coast offense scheme he is bringing in. A very interesting player addition for the Eagles.” — Tyler Forness

From the perspective that Brown is traded later this offseason, I like this pick plenty for the Birds. Cooper is one of the most well-rounded WR prospects in this class and is a fit in Philly. His route running, strong hands, and willingness to run block are all aspects that the Eagles coaching staff would appreciate.

If Philadelphia has it on their radar that a trade is more likely than not for the Pro Bowl WR, then the position has to be on the board for them early in the draft. No doubt about that to me – considering their lack of depth.

Second round: Zion Young, EDGE, Missouri

This value is pristine to me. Young is a back end of round one potential pick for multiple teams, so him slipping to the fifties is big-time.

The Eagles added some pass rush depth in Arnold Ebiketie, but it makes sense to keep addressing the position. They lost EDGE rusher Jaelan Phillips during free agency, and none of their current pass rushers have the upside he possessed for the Birds last season.

They lack proven options at the position, and that could cost them if they don’t improve upon it before the end of the offseason. The draft gives them another avenue to accomplish that.

Overall, this start to a draft would be incredibly productive for Philly in the short and long-term. They’ll give a hint to A.J. Brown’s future with how they attack the early rounds, too. Absolutely.
