Steelers lose Cameron Sutton to Detroit Lions in free agency
Pittsburgh misses out on a key figure.
The Pittsburgh Steelers just lost one of their best defensive starters in Cam Sutton.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network was on the news first, announcing that Sutton signed a three-year deal with the Detroit Lions, worth $33 million and $22.5 million in guarantees.
Sutton was drafted in the third round by Pittsburgh in the 2017 NFL Draft. Coming off his best year as a pro, it was going to be tough to keep Sutton in the black and gold.
After playing in only five games as a rookie, Sutton played in 15 or more games from 2018-2022, recording eight interceptions, 38 pass breakups, and 168 total tackles. (Stats via pro football reference.)
The Lions need veteran help in a youthful secondary, making this move provides leadership, versatility, and stable play at the corner position.
