The rivalry between the Tennessee Titans and Houston Texans is quickly developing into the nastiest rivalry in the AFC South.

Amy Adams Strunk, like her late father Bud Adams, has an affinity for beating the Texans. The Adams family, which hails from Houston, has never taken kindly to Titans shortcomings at the hands of the Texans.

In an effort to embrace the franchise's history (and sweet uniforms), the Titans opted to don the Houston Oilers throwback uniforms in a loss to the Texans last fall. The decision to wear these throwbacks resulted in plenty of deserved backlash after the loss.

It's a concept that is quite baffling considering the Titans franchise is the same organization that picked up shop in Houston and relocated to Tennessee in 1997. There is a false sense of entitlement Texans fans have towards the history of the Oilers. To put it bluntly, the Oilers history belongs to the franchise currently located in Nashville.

With that being said, if a franchise is going to rub its history in the face of its former home, then it has no other choice than to eat all of the criticism and blowback that comes along with it, especially after a defeat.

The most recent example comes from Hannah McNair, the vice president of the Texans Foundation and wife of Texans owner Cal Mcnair. McNair has not been pleased with the Titans' use of the Columbia Blue throwbacks the Titans wore in last year's matchup in Nashville.

"Who started it? [The Titans did by] wearing it against us," McNair said in an appearance on SportsRadio 610. "And if anyone was at [last year's game in Tennessee], their in-house PA was instigating it. It was unbelievable but also wonderful, because we finished the story, OK? So, I mean who's salty here?"

It's important to note that her media tour ran parallel to Houston's new jersey reveal, which received mixed reviews at best across the NFL.

But McNair wasn't finished. When asked about the state of the rivalry between the Texans and Titans she replied, "Well, first they need to beat us."

Act like you've been there before

There is no denying the Texans are currently better positioned than the Titans are in the AFC South. And Houston is currently on a three-game win streak against Tennessee.

But this rivalry goes back much further than the last three games. In fact, Tennessee leads the all-time series 23-21. The Texans have been looking up at the Titans for the better part of two decades.

The Titans won 11 of the first 13 meetings against Houston, which promptly relegated them to the little brother role. Obviously the Texans have made up some ground, but let's not forget that Houston posted an 11-38-1 record in the three seasons leading up to last year's division title.

This is the type of stuff that makes rivalries so much fun. With all of the drama in the past year, the 2024 season should provide some of the loudest bragging rights this rivalry has seen in quite a while.
