NASHVILLE — For the first time since he was fired by the organization last week, former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel has issued a public statement and broken his silence.

But Vrabel's statement on Wednesday evening was not in regards to his firing. It was a statement that propped up his peer, friend, and former assistant head coach Terrell Williams.

Williams is the assistant head coach and defensive line coach for the Titans. But in a few weeks, Williams will be a head coach at the 2024 Reese's Senior Bowl.

“There is no more deserving person to be a head coach for the Senior Bowl or any level than Terrell Williams. His loyalty, dedication, and service to the Titans program for the last six years has not gone unnoticed. Terrell is a creative teacher and developer who also makes a unique connection with his players and those on the other side of the ball. I can’t thank him enough for the impact that he has made on me personally as well as with our team. I am excited to watch him excel as a head coach in the Senior Bowl.”

Vrabel has been thinking and speaking very highly of Williams for quite some time now. Williams joined Vrabel's staff when he first got the head coaching job in Tennessee back in 2018 and has since been a major contributor to developing some talented defensive linemen, most notably Jeffery Simmons and Teair Tart.

Before the 2023 season, Vrabel assigned Williams the "assistant head coach" title. He also gave him the unique opportunity to act as the head coach for one of Tennessee's preseason games.

“I’m super excited about the opportunity to coach in the 2024 Senior Bowl," said Williams in a statement. "It’s a great opportunity to help these college players get some exposure into what professional football is all about. I’m very thankful to Mike Vrabel for nominating me for this honor. I’m looking forward to working with coaches and other Senior Bowl personnel to make sure this is a great experience for the players.”

The Senior Bowl will be played at the University of South Alabama and Hancock Whitney Stadium on February 3rd, 2024. Williams and the rest of the coaching staff will be working with 2024 NFL Draft prospects in practices during the week before the game.
