The Buffalo Bills are reuniting with a familiar face on the defensive side of the ball.
On Thursday, the Bills claimed linebacker A.J. Klein off waivers from the Chicago Bears. Klein has had an adventurous 2022 campaign, making his third, and hopefully final, stop of the season in Buffalo.
Klein began the season with the Baltimore Ravens, but was shipped to Chicago as part of the trade for Roquan Smith. Now in Buffalo, Klein adds depth and familiarity to a defense he was a part of from 2020-2021.
He appeared in 31 games, starting 15 of them in his two seasons with the Bills. Klein tallied five sacks and tackles for loss, making his impact known when his name was called.
The Bills have endured some poor injury luck on defense this season. With linebacker Tremaine Edmunds and Matt Milano missing time throughout the season, Klein serves to add depth at the position.
If nothing else, Klein looks to be a valuable piece to the Bills’ special teams operation. However, if another injury pops up in the linebacker room, Klein’s veteran presence and knowledge of the system gives Buffalo a plug-and-play option in an emergency circumstance.
