As if offense wasn’t scarce enough already in the Bears’ season opener against the 49ers, San Francisco received a troubling injury update on starting running back, Elijah Mitchell.
Mitchell has been declared out for the remainder of Sunday’s contest with a knee injury.
It’s unfortunate for the 24-year-old running back, especially considering he underwent a cleanup procedure on his knee this offseason.
It is not yet known if the injury is on the same knee, but 49ers fans will be waiting for the next update with bated breath.
Poor Elijah Mitchell just can't stay healthy. In his rookie season last year he suffered:— Inside Injuries (@InsideInjuries) September 11, 2022
– a concussion
– rib cartilage injury
– finger fracture
– shoulder injury
+ offseason knee surgery then a minor hamstring issue during training camp #49ers
Mitchell is a significant loss for San Francisco who, like Chicago, hasn’t been able to get much going offensively. The Niners accumulated 179 yards of offense in the first half with 115 coming via the ground game.
On a wet Sunday at Soldier Field the 49ers likely turn to a combination of RB Jeff Wilson and WR Deebo Samuel to fill the void in the backfield.
