The Chicago Bears recently continued efforts toward maximizing their roster by waiving injured linebacker Christian Albright and signing USFL star LB Marquis Gates.
The team’s PR account announced the moves Saturday morning.
#Bears roster move: We have waived LB Christian Albright with an injury designation (Waived/Injured) and signed LB DeMarquis Gates.— Bears Communications (@BearsPR) August 6, 2022
Albright is an undrafted rookie out of Ball State. He left practice early on August 1 with an unspecified injury and also missed practice the following day. Head coach Matt Eberflus is very guarded about injuries, so there aren’t any updates as to whether or not his release is officially related to this injury.
Gates played for the USFL’s Birmingham Stallions and was a key contributor to the team’s championship run. Many considered him to be the best linebacker in the entire league last year.
Per the team’s website, the team’s roster is at the 90-man limit after the moves.
