The latest big NFL news could impact the Chicago Bears in a negative way.

On Monday, the Denver Broncos fired head coach Nathaniel Hackett after just 15 games with the franchise.

Hackett went 4-11 before getting fired. The poor record was only part of the reason why Hackett was fired on Monday. The Broncos’ culture was disastrous this season and it appeared at times that Hackett had lost control of the team.

With Hackett out, it means the Broncos will be looking for a new head coach in the coming weeks.

One potential option will be Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy.

Getsy, who joined Chicago’s staff before the 2022 season, previously served as the Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach/passing game coordinator from 2019-2021.

Before hiring Hackett, the Broncos interviewed Getsy for their head coaching vacancy, so they’re certainly familiar with him.

The last thing the Bears need is to lose their offensive coordinator. It would mean that Justin Fields would have a new offensive coordinator for the third straight season. That wouldn’t be ideal for his development.

If you think that Chicago’s poor record will make Getsy a less attractive option for the Broncos, I’m not sure that will be the case.

Matt LaFleur, for example, was hired as the Green Bay Packers head coach after serving just one season as the Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator. Tennessee went 9-7 with LaFleur as the playcaller, but the Titans’ offense was one of the worst in the NFL that season (Tennessee had the No. 27 scoring defense in the league in 2018). Head coaching hires aren’t always made based on coordinator results.

It’s still a bit early to know what direction the Broncos will go in their search for a new head coach, but Getsy is certainly a name worth keeping an eye on.
